Torneo di Burraco
Today we have our first self-fundraising event, the Burraco tournament at Hotel Faina in Mantignana near Perugia. We were afraid there might not be enough participation, but in the end, many people responded and filled the room. It’s so nice to see so much participation in support of our efforts, to hear questions to better understand who we are and what we intend to do. Many people who don’t know us have heard friends talk about this event and its purpose and have joined us. Our hearts warm up in the face of so much sensitivity.
The tournament ritual begins with the accreditation process; Raffaella Nadenbousch and Bruna Ginocchini have meticulously organized everything, dealing with and solving problems (some even last-minute and significant) as they emerged. In the end, everything is perfect. With this great team, it could not have been otherwise, and we in the Brigata knew it for sure from the beginning. We take our seats, and everything is organized down to the tiniest detail, with everyone in their designated places, and the tables set impeccably.
Our president gives a brief introduction to the Brigata and why we’re here today, and everyone listens with interest, which is also lovely. Now we’re ready to start… the bell rings, and off we go.
Our guys participated in the preparation of the room and will then organize the buffet. Time passes, silence is mandatory, you only hear the rustle of cards and some comments here and there. It’s the break time and the first ranking is posted under the curious and anxious gaze of the players; then the new team pairings are assigned and the game resumes.
Still silence, just a slight buzz, it feels strange for those of us who are not accustomed to these tournaments. In the end, the judges tally up the scores and display the rankings with a mix of satisfaction and inevitable regrets… but the atmosphere is beautiful and we all feel like winners… at least in our hearts.
The award ceremony begins, which is celebrated in joy and friendship with the delivery of many prizes that local activities have generously provided to support us. A particular fun and novelty was created by the award for last place in the rankings, an unexpected surprise, a dinner for 2 in a pizzeria…not bad at all.
Thanks to all the participants for being present and supporting our Brigade.
Now, let’s start the assault on the buffet, rich in sweet and savory delicacies of all kinds. The Brigade boys and our super volunteer Mauro are busy distributing the delicacies and serving the drinks. Plates and glasses full fly between the tables and everyone is having fun; for us, everything is wonderful.
